Boys Varsity Season Preview

Posted On: Wednesday, December 11, 2013

On Thursday December 12, 2013, the Crossland High School Upper Gym will open for basketball season. The boys varsity team will take on Douglass. This will be the last season three seniors will get to play in a Crossland uniform. Darius Speaks, Charles Owens, and Javae Lampkins. These will be the three you will keep your eyes on this year too. These three are an excellent combination for this Crossland team, and will do big things for them this year.

Coach Matthews looks ready for the season too, pumping up the players with motivational speeches in the beginning, and the end of each practices. He is an extremely smart, and wise coach. Who knows exactly what he’s doing. He demands nothing but respect, and he’s player give itall to him. If Crossland wishes to do anything big this year, it will be at Coach Matthews helm and command.

Juniorguard Eric Landis is an incredibly strong, talented, and smart player. Yes he has a lot of pizazz to his game, but looking at him play the game, he is nothing but fundamentals. He is quick to move, but consciously makes his decisions. His is also a very important key to the Cavaliers if they want to be successful this year. The Cavaliers will need him to be able to make shots when called on. There are sometimes where for long periods of times he goes missing on the court, yet he comes back with 10 straight points. He will have to show some more consistency in his shot, and style of play. He will become a name you hear a lot though throughout this season.

Lack of a big man/post player this will hurt them throughout the season. Yet if their bigger guards can pick up the slack off of the bigs, they can succeed. I expect that their speed will also help, if it can stay under control. In order to succeed this will have to be a caveat that is not seen at all, or rarely this year.

Fan Participation will be huge this year, and will make coming to games so much more fun for players and visitors. It will help lighten their days up if down by 2. Can encourage them to win, and let them know someone is right there. If Crossland can have fans play they’re roll, it will make they’re jobs 14x easier. Home game tickets will cost $5.00.

With the season starting Thursday, the players will have a lot of work to do tomorrow. They will have to put that extra work in to be known as great. This group of guys is one of the best teams in Maryland hands down. I don’t really see any teams beating them. These guys have come together as one, and are ready for any rock to be thrown at them. With the team looking better than ever, the sky is their only limit. See you on Thursday!!
